Week 4 Consequences of Stress on Children's Development

I believe that it is very important that a child experience positive things throughout their life.  The things that a child experiences throughout his childhood plays a huge part on who they will become as an adult.  If parents provide a happy and nurturing environment for their child it is more likely that the child will be successful in his/her life.  They are more likely to express positive emotions as they meet new people. They know how to communicate effectively in their relationships.  I chose to write my own childhood experience.  I was raised in a low socioeconomic home, where my mom worked and paid the bills by herself.  My father never kept a job and he was a severe alcoholic.  The home that we lived in had horrible plumbing problems.  I remember being embarrassed for company to come over and I hoped every time that they would never ask to use the restroom.  My father got drunk on a regular basis and cause confusion within the home.  He cursed the children, my mom, and my friends.  I learned to hate him and I witnessed my parents arguing all the time and I believed that all marriages and relationships were that way.  I often visited other people and their homes were neat and clean and I wished I lived in a home like that.  As an adolescent I feared getting in a relationship or getting close to anyone.  I had a problem opening up to and getting close to people.  As I became older I fear becoming involved in a relationship with a guy because all I knew was negative communication.  I got married at 22 years old and it didn't last two year because I didn't know how to demonstrate love and compassion because I never saw it growing up in my home.  It is very important for parents to demonstrate love in the home.  If a child witness negative things throughout their childhood it can affect them in the long run.  Luckily I was a strong enough to become a better person.  However, not every child is fortunate enough to break the mold.

Week 2 The importance of Immunizaton

Immunization is the process of protecting a person against a disease, by using antibodies.  Immunizations can happen naturally when someone survives a disease, or medically.  Here in the U.S. immunizations are accessible to the public free of charge.  It is also mandatory that U.S. citizens are up-to-date with their immunization in order to attend schools, universities and work in health care.  Unfortunately many countries unlike the U.S. do not provide these free immunizations, many people end up dying because they cannot afford the proper vaccines that is need to treat their illnesses. Each year about 2.1 million people around the world die from vaccine-preventable diseases.  Most of the deaths are due to a lack of immunizations.  In Ethiopia and India there is a lack of supply and failure of the healthcare system.  These is also an urgent need to find ways to increase vaccination coverage.  Ethiopia and India has a sizeable social demand for better quality of vaccination services.  Most parents have poor knowledge of vaccination.  Immunizations is very important in the early development of a child, it insures that the child has a strong chance of having a healthy life.

Week 1 Child Birthing

I wasn't surprised that most child births are done in hospitals or any other controlled environments.  Other countries are poorer therefore they use cheaper methods of child birthing and also many prefer the natural child birthing approach for many different personal reasons.  Many birth complications are more common in other countries because of the lack of doctor visits and poor nutrition.  Many child birth complication occur for different reasons and often times it is not the mothers fault.  If oxygen isn't being received by the infant it can cause brain damage and the child may be born with major defects.  Many mothers go through postpartum depression after child birth because they may not be able to catch up on their rest or may have many stressors that they are concerned about.  Prenatal care educates parents about remaining healthy to have a successful child birth and healthy child.  When I was 15 I became pregnant and later had a miscarriage.  I hid the pregnancy from my family, at about 51/2 months I had a miscarriage.  If I would of had the proper prenatal care, I believe I would of had a successful pregnancy.  Prenatal care is very essential because if there is an issue, the doctor can determine the problem and it can be solved early rather that later.
