Week 2 The importance of Immunizaton

Immunization is the process of protecting a person against a disease, by using antibodies.  Immunizations can happen naturally when someone survives a disease, or medically.  Here in the U.S. immunizations are accessible to the public free of charge.  It is also mandatory that U.S. citizens are up-to-date with their immunization in order to attend schools, universities and work in health care.  Unfortunately many countries unlike the U.S. do not provide these free immunizations, many people end up dying because they cannot afford the proper vaccines that is need to treat their illnesses. Each year about 2.1 million people around the world die from vaccine-preventable diseases.  Most of the deaths are due to a lack of immunizations.  In Ethiopia and India there is a lack of supply and failure of the healthcare system.  These is also an urgent need to find ways to increase vaccination coverage.  Ethiopia and India has a sizeable social demand for better quality of vaccination services.  Most parents have poor knowledge of vaccination.  Immunizations is very important in the early development of a child, it insures that the child has a strong chance of having a healthy life.
